Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to US fulfillment fees

Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to US FBA fulfillment fees from 2026-04-17, and to Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime from 05-02. It is charged on fulfillment fees, not the sale price; Amazon puts the average US FBA impact at about $0.17 per unit, and gives no end date.

Our read

For light apparel the hit is small: a T-shirt with a $4.00 fulfillment fee pays $0.14 more. The notice gives no end date, so our view is to treat it as a lasting cost and enter your fulfillment fee × 1.035 in the landed cost tool. Orders you ship yourself, without FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment or Buy with Prime, are not charged.

The effective date is for US FBA; MCF and Buy with Prime follow on 2026-05-02.

Who is affected

  • US FBA sellers pay the surcharge on fulfillment fees, not on the product price. The quoted $0.17 is an average, not a flat charge per unit.
  • Sellers using Multi-Channel Fulfillment, which ships other channels’ orders from platform warehouses, or Buy with Prime are also covered, with a later start date.
  • Orders shipped entirely by the seller or an independent warehouse without these services are outside the scope of this surcharge notice.

With the 3.5% surcharge$4.00 × 1.035 = $4.14$11.36$16.64

Assumes one unit per order, a $10 duty-paid delivered cost, a $30 selling price and 15% commission, with no separate inbound delivery, payment, advertising or return costs. These are assumptions, not platform quotes or industry averages. Profit falls by $0.14 per order. The button loads the second row; change fulfillment to 4 to reproduce the first.

Recalculate in the Landed cost and profit per unit

What to do

  • Check the fee preview or settlement details to see whether the displayed fulfillment charge already includes the surcharge. Do not multiply an inclusive amount by 1.035 again.
  • Multiply each product’s underlying fulfillment fee by 1.035 and enter the total as fulfillment cost in the landed cost tool to review profit per order.
  • Check whether other sales channels use Multi-Channel Fulfillment too. Label the surcharge as having no announced end date and update the cost sheet when official terms change.
