Amazon: Mainland China sellers must buy liability insurance through AIA, and some categories lose the sales threshold
Sellers already had to carry commercial liability insurance within 30 days once Amazon.com sales passed $10,000 in any month, with at least $1 million per occurrence and in aggregate. From 2026-11-02, sellers in categories with enhanced safety listing requirements need it regardless of sales, and Mainland China sellers must buy it through Amazon Insurance Accelerator (AIA); valid third-party policies already submitted can run until they expire.
Our read
For apparel sellers registered in Mainland China, the practical change is where you renew: once your current policy expires it must come through AIA, and the premium may differ, so get an AIA quote a month or two before expiry. If you sell children's apparel or other enhanced-safety categories, you need cover even below $10,000 a month; check in Seller Central whether your categories are on the list.

- upcomingNew insurance requirements begin; newly submitted non-AIA policies from Mainland China sellers are rejected, while qualifying existing policies remain valid until expiry
Who is affected
- The existing liability-insurance requirement remains for sellers whose Amazon.com gross proceeds exceed $10,000 in any month. This covers product-related liability, not parcels lost in transit.
- Products in enhanced-safety categories require cover regardless of sales, for both new and existing listings. Children’s products are an example in the notice; check the full category list for each apparel line.
- Mainland China sellers who need insurance must use the Amazon Insurance Accelerator (AIA) channel for new or renewed policies. Compliant, valid third-party policies submitted before November 2 may continue until expiry.
- Sellers outside the enhanced-safety categories and below the existing sales threshold should not read this as a new blanket insurance mandate for all adult apparel. The new AIA channel requirement does not apply to sellers outside Mainland China.
What to do
- Check each active product against the enhanced-safety category list and retain the category decision and any request for additional documents.
- Record policy expiry and submission dates, verify at least $1 million per occurrence and in aggregate, and check that the products you actually sell are covered.
- If your Mainland China business needs a new or renewed policy, obtain an AIA quote early and align the coverage dates. Avoid discovering missing application documents only after the old policy expires.
What the official text says
