TikTok Shop US: AI product images must match the real item, and flat prints can't look 3D

TikTok Shop allows AI-generated or edited product images as long as they match the listing and the item the buyer receives, without changing color, material, shape or function. Flat printed goods such as stickers, posters and wall art must not be shown with relief, layering or 3D effects they don't have.

Our read

POD sellers list almost entirely from mockups, and this rule makes them what-you-see-is-what-you-get: DTF or DTG prints must not look like embroidery or raised relief, and colors must not be much brighter than the real print. The safest approach is at least one real photo per style, using mockups only to show placement.

Who is affected

  • US sellers using AI-generated, edited or rendered listing visuals must match the description, selected variation and delivered product.
  • Sellers of flat prints, stickers, posters and wall art should check especially for invented relief, layers or thickness.
  • Accurate AI visuals remain allowed. A product actually assembled or sold as a three-dimensional item is not covered by the prohibition on making a flat item appear three-dimensional.

What to do

  • Compare each image with a real sample for prints that appear embroidered, altered materials or extra bundle contents. Check color and size variations individually too.
  • Replace flat-product images that invent thickness or relief through lighting with real photos or accurate visuals. A generic “for reference only” disclaimer does not make an inaccurate image match the product.
  • We recommend retaining sample photos and before-and-after image versions for review. This is our practical advice; the source does not prescribe a number of real photos per listing.
