TikTok Shop US: personalized POD orders become final sale, with quality claims still protected
TikTok Shop US introduced new aftersales rules for the Print-on-Demand category: product pages show Final Sale and buyers can cancel before production starts, but not return for remorse, wrong choice or fit afterwards. Defects, damage, wrong or missing items remain protected and must be claimed within 14 days of delivery.
Our read
Good news for sellers who print names or photos: remorse returns largely drop out of your cost. Quality problems are still yours, so keep screenshots of the customization before production and photos before shipping. A regular printed tee picked from a few fixed designs may not count as personalized POD, so don't mark it final sale yourself.

Who is affected
- Sellers on TikTok Shop US whose products are made to each buyer's personal specifications, such as printed names, photos or text.
- TikTok says Final Sale eligibility is offered only to select qualified sellers and applicable categories, so not every POD shop qualifies automatically; check what Seller Center shows for you.
- The official text does not say that ordinary printed products chosen from a few fixed designs count as personalized POD.
Run the numbers
| Case | Calculation | Result for this order |
|---|---|---|
| Normal sale | $30 price − $10 cost − $5 outbound shipping − $3 platform fee | Earns $12.00 |
| Before: buyer changes their mind, return and refund | Refund $30, plus $6.40 return label and $2 handling; a personalized item cannot be resold | Loses $26.40, $38.40 worse than a normal sale |
| Now: the same change-of-mind request | Not accepted | Keeps $12.00 |
| Print defect, send a replacement | $10 cost + $5 shipping + $2 handling; this part has not changed | Loses $5.00 |
What to do
- Check in Seller Center whether your shop and listings are eligible for Final Sale and whether the label shows on the product page. Don't call ineligible products final sale in titles or descriptions; TikTok explicitly prohibits it.
- Save each buyer's customization (text, photos, preview) before production and photograph orders before shipping. That is your evidence if a quality claim arrives within 14 days of delivery.
- Aftersales requests on Final Sale orders go through Customer Support, and sellers must review them within 2 business days or the refund may be approved automatically. Staff up before peak season.
- Decide in advance whether a replacement or a refund costs you less for quality problems; run your own costs through the returns calculator.
What the official text says
Customized Print on Demand (POD) products are treated as Final Sale or non-returnable because they are produced to the buyer's personalized specifications and generally cannot be resold.
Sellers are prohibited from circumventing this rule by listing or describing ineligible products as "final sale."
